The deceased was brought up a farmer but at an early age learned the trade of a miller. He was an active man in both avocations, but for many years has been a farmer exclusively and resided a the time of his death upon his farm about two and a half miles south of the Brick House. He had been married three times, his last wife, and six children, surviving him. He was a member of the masonic fraternity at Port Jervis, when that lodge was in its infancy, he was also a member of the Milford Lodge after which he connected himself with Harmony Lodge at Newton, of which lodge he was a member at the time of his death. He purchased a house and lot in Newton, where he resided during 1875. In the Spring of 1876, he returned to his farm, knowing that his death was near at hand. He died as he ever lived a kind husband, father and an upright mason. His remains were deposited in the cemetery at Flatbrookville on January 28th, by the side of his first wife. Unto the grave we have consigned the body of our deceased brother, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. To those of his immediate relatives and friends who are most heart striken at the loss we have all sustained we can only sincerely, deeply and affectionately sympathize."
